Subj: Kinkaku! Kinkaku!
heloheoheleoe:)
Kinkaku
=======
(The truly uncool, uninspirational story of a japanese resteraunt).
Once upon a time, long long ago, in a galaxy far far way, in a very very
smelly area of Sydney lived a kebab. His name was Keb:)
Keb was a very Kool Kebab, Konsidering that Kebabs aren't usually very
Kool. Keb liked taking long walks through dirty alleyways and giving
homies dirty looks, 'cos that was Kool:)
Then one day, Keb Konsidered Kooking Japanese Kwisine (that was pretty
lame yes?:) ). But he didn't know how to cook any japanese meals... So
he thought the best way to learn was to go to the video shop and hire
out lots of Jet Li films. Keb thought this a great way to learn about
asian culture.
Keb thought that the films were crap though, and still likes the karate
kid better 'cos he done that cool crane kick. Keb reckoned that the
karate kid could beat Jet Li's arse anyday:)
The Karate Kid had more K's in it too:)
Anway, Keb needed to find a Kwalified Japanese Kook for his new Japanese
Restaurant. So he called the Klu Klux Klan but they threatened to kill
his mother, so he tried the triads instead.
So he finally did it, he opened his store the very next day after the
hiroshima bomb because there'd be less competition from other
businesses. He called it "KinKaKu" because it had three K's in it and it
reminded him of "Keb's Kebab Kingdom".
And they lived happily ever after. Yes, they. Keb and the Kook got
married, had kids, died, and left their children a business heavily in
debt:)
THE END

but arseholes). I want you to prove me the fuck wrong.. Show me that it
isn't about the presents,. More so the giving and loving. Not Fucken
presents and drunk relatives boning each other in the toilet.. What the
fuck am i getting at here !? I do not know.. I was rudely deprived by my

than a canterbury road whore.
So come on you fat fucking midget molester.. Show me Christmas!!!

I loooooooooooooove "grey days" :)
They're the perfect days for :
1. Staying in bed all day
2. Curling up on the couch all day
3. Curling up on the couch in front of the tv all day
4. Reading a good book.
5. Starting a fire (preferably in a fireplace) :)
6. Lying in front of said fire on a fake fur rug.
7. Drinking hot chocolate with marshmallows.
8. Going swimming in your backyard pool.
9. Dancing, and spinning around lamp posts, singing songs.
10. Talking on the phone, preferably to someone interstate.
11. Listening to 2WS, and bopping to songs older than you.
12. Did I mention reading a good book? :)
13. Playing with Lego, play-doh, and Barbie. (not all at once!)
14. Moping. :)
15. Logging on to Active.. erm.. <ahem>
So nyer. :)
I love grey days. Blue days are faggots.

When i was a little boy, i spat in the pate at a funeral.. then i put
the caviar in my nose and sprayed it around the room like i was a bubble
machine.. Later on that day,. I sat on a sunroof and farted and followed
thru.. but by the time i followed thru the sunroof was opened..
The next day,. Centennial Park's lake dried up and i was photoed in it
(this is true) .. but i hadta take a wizz and filled it up,. Coca Cola
tasted it and bottled it as Cherry Coke.. I then created the Goodyear
blimp by taking Brian Bury's bowtie collection and wrapped it around my
head..
When i was 10. I urinated on the schools wall.. The wall dissolved and
the building fell, creating a violent earthquake and tsunami in China.
Then i met Amaze at a Commodore 64 gathering in 1993..

just as an aside .. and vaguely on topic of people one goes to
school with (and their importance in your life) .. in the 14,
yes, fourteen - count them - years since i left high school, i've
seen three or four people from my year. i saw a couple of friends
from the year or two beneath me, in the year or two after i left.
but in the following decade or so, one mad woman on a train between
epping and hornsby, one ostensibly cool guy working behind the bar
somewhere the back of paddo, and four years ago a guy i barely
knew, in the city. he threatened to reveal information about the
10 year reunion party .. but never followed through, as such i
didn't get the [probable] pleasure of seeing the other 116 people
i spent five years of my life with.
and do i miss them? no. not at all. a couple of them were
cute, but statistically / comparatively this doesn't provide
sufficient cause. most of them were funny, but for entirely
the wrong reasons. most of them were smart, too .. which is
probably a saving grace. <ponders>
anyway - the less you see of people you used to know, the better.
i knew that'd cheer you up.
jedd.
ps. lilith .. what you say may be true - but you gotta admit
she's got a lot of material to work from. [nod]

superb idea. do it. do not be swayed. costs will be high, including
financial ones. cope with it. it'll be worth it. (this statement
comes with no guarantee, just lots of nodding.)
] .. best places to stay ... travellers to find work ... youth hostels
] ... cheapest for something more permanent ...
Susan Griffith, from memory, has a book called 'working around the
world' (or similar). Dymocks or A&R will be able to find it for
you pretty easily, either way. It's pretty much the definitive
text on the topic. It may be worth the investment. Check it out,
either way.
Further, the Lonely Planet guidebooks are (IMO) the best of the lot,
and most Australians tend to agree. Let's Go are popular with yanks,
but only up until they bump into an Australian and read their copy
of the LP guide. Frommers <sp?> suck. Anyway, LP guides have a
small section for each region on work. It's a good indicator (if
it will be feasible, what skills / languages, are useful, etc).
You may want to check out their homepage (probably www.lonelyplanet.
com.au, at a guess) - they've got online forums. The alt.backpackers
newsgroup is a good resource, too - it also includes advertisements
from b&b, longer-term stays, kind of places. Not sure if I'd ever
use one .. but it's useful for getting a feel for prices.
Youth Hostels (YHA here, and international hostels, or whatever
they're called, elsewhere) tend to be over-rated. They're rarely
cheaper, particularly if you're travelling with someone else. And
if you're not travelling with someone else when you leave, chances
are good that you'll travel with someone else as you go (and I don't
mean necessarily in 'that' way). They also have substantial downsides
(a lack of privacy, you have to clean up loos, etc, as part of your
stay .. that kind of thing).
If you want to work in the EU, you'll also need either a work permit
or a passport of any of the member countries. The former is easy to
gain, provided you're under 27. (This is for the UK - not sure about
the Australian relationship with other countries in the EU.) The
UK one, though, is limited to two years, of which you should only
work for a maximum of 12 months out of that time, maximum of three
months with any single employee, etc. Other embassies will be able
to provide you information on their regulations regarding travellers
working. Portugal probably is a bit shitty with us still - they're
the only country in the EU, I think, that requires Aus nationals to
get a visa prior to entry. Also note that unemployment is rife
throughout large sections of Europe - and you'd be down the list of
potential employees by being non-local, non-native-language speaker.
> Europe is apparently cheaper, but I want to work over there so I need an
> English speaking country. :o)
Having said that .. there are exceptions. Unless you have some
particular skill, I'd avoid aiming at London. It's horribly
expensive. But it *is* english-speaking, and it is full of
Australians and NooZoolundurs. Out of the major cities, too,
around the UK, it's somewhat more feasible (money-wise). The
crap quality of the pacific peso is also unlikely to change
substantially over the next few years, particularly in relation
to the stronger EU currencies.

I know people that think going to Manly for the day is effectively
'Going O/S'. Well, I don't *know* any westies .. I've just heard
of them. [assure]
As a culture, because we're so far from anything useful - it takes
4 hours of flight just to clear the top end, f.e. - we tend to take
longer / more adventurous holidays than most other peoples. You'll
find lots of Europeans that don't take advantage of their proximity
to some of the most interesting things this planet has to offer.
Day-trips to another country are, for us, inconceivable - partly
because of the time it takes, partly because of visa / immunisation
concerns, but mostly because it's just so danged expensive.
If you recall around July last year, the earthquake in Turkey? It
takes three hours to fly to Turkey from London - and it's dirt
cheap to do so (less than it costs us to fly to Melbourne). Even
less when you factor in the value of the pound .v. the $A. And
as a direct result of that earthquake, in one tiny corner of
the country, the value of their currency dropped - from 500,000
turkish lira to 750,000 .. to the pound-sterling. Superb
tourism potential - but effectively unrealised by a population
that would rather spend its one month a year (the same month,
every year, for pretty much everyone in Europe) on the south
coast of Spain. It's all very sad. <ahem>
But yes .. we also tend to be reliant, moreso than other cultures,
on the sun to determine our location. Other travellers I met
commented on this - so it's not just me being nerdy. It's
confusing, at first, because the sun arcs around the southern
sky rather than the northern, but once you get over that small
problem, you'll still find lots of locals, yanks, etc - that
are permanently oblivious to compass directions.
(Disturbing anecdote #273 - a week or two ago, at the southern
end of Pitt St Mall, I was waiting for some friends. I espied
two lost-looking people, staring up around them, and then
at their map. As is my wont, I offered some assistance. They
were americans, and couldn't work out which way circular quay
was. This .. in an english speaking country, replete with
a vast array of street signs .. disturbs me. About two years
ago, when sitting in the New Windsor having a quiet ale with
some friends, I espied a family looking similarly lost just
on the corner. With beer in hand, I ducked out onto the street,
and offered some assistance. I think they were mediteranean,
but couldn't hazard a guess as to which country. Anyway, their
english was poor, but all the father wanted to know was which
way was north - then he was okay. This chuffed me. :)
Jedd.

I do. All of them. Twice, in most cases. Thrice, in many cases.
And on rare occasions, four times.
They're remarkably good - very witty, erudite, informed, although
some people consider them verbose, I think that's more a reflection
on their inability to think for more than 30 seconds at a stretch,
than on any failing with his message-writing ability.
